I called and they were able to come out the same day. The problem was diagnosed right away. He asked if I had another fridge I could put the food in so the fridge could defrost overnight. I said I did not but knew people who had room and coolers I could use. He said to not do that. They would come the next day with equipment that could defrost the fridge quickly. They came at the time they said they would both days. They were professional and considerate of my time.

Whole home rewiring in Tampa Bay is most often driven by one of two materials: knob-and-tube wiring in pre-1960 homes or aluminum branch wiring in homes built in the 1970s. Both create problems. Both affect your ability to get insurance. Neither gets better with time.

Knob-and-tube runs as two separate ungrounded wires through ceramic insulators. It has no ground. It wasn't designed for modern loads. When it's been in place for sixty years, the insulation is brittle. Insurance companies in Florida increasingly won't cover homes with active knob-and-tube wiring.

Aluminum branch wiring was installed in many Tampa Bay homes in the late 1960s and early 1970s when copper prices spiked. Aluminum expands and contracts more than copper with temperature changes. Over time, connections at outlets, switches, and junction boxes loosen, creating heat and arcing. The CPSC documented the elevated fire risk from aluminum branch wiring in residential circuits.

A whole-home rewire is scoped at the diagnostic visit. We look at the house, count circuits, assess access, and give you a written quote. The job typically takes three to five days. The house needs to be unoccupied during active work days. We pull all permits, coordinate inspections, and close access points when we're done.

We don't do partial rewires for knob-and-tube unless your insurer specifies a particular circuit by name. A partial rewire creates a splice between new and old wiring that insurance companies often still reject. We tell you this upfront and let you make an informed decision.

We serve Cheval and the surrounding Hillsborough County area. Call (727) 222-9892 for same-day service.

FAQ /

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my home has knob-and-tube wiring?

Knob-and-tube runs as two separate wires along ceramic knobs and through ceramic tubes in the joists. If your home was built before 1950, there's a high probability some of it is still in place. We check during the diagnostic visit.

Will insurance companies cover a home with knob-and-tube wiring?

Many won't, or they charge significantly higher premiums. Some require replacement as a condition of renewal. Get specifics from your insurer before the diagnostic — it affects the scope and urgency of the job.

How long does a whole-home rewire take?

Three to five days for an average-size Florida home, depending on access and number of circuits. The house needs to be unoccupied during active work days.

Do you fix the drywall after?

We minimize cuts and close access points. Full drywall finishing and painting is done by a drywall contractor. We can refer you to one we've worked with in Tampa Bay.

Is aluminum wiring always a problem?

Aluminum in the service entrance (the large wires from the utility meter to the panel) is standard and fine. Aluminum branch wiring — the smaller wires going to outlets and switches — is the concern. We identify which is which during the diagnostic.
