Whole home rewiring in Tampa Bay is most often driven by one of two materials: knob-and-tube wiring in pre-1960 homes or aluminum branch wiring in homes built in the 1970s. Both create problems. Both affect your ability to get insurance. Neither gets better with time.

Knob-and-tube runs as two separate ungrounded wires through ceramic insulators. It has no ground. It wasn't designed for modern loads. When it's been in place for sixty years, the insulation is brittle. Insurance companies in Florida increasingly won't cover homes with active knob-and-tube wiring.

Aluminum branch wiring was installed in many Tampa Bay homes in the late 1960s and early 1970s when copper prices spiked. Aluminum expands and contracts more than copper with temperature changes.
