Read moreMicrowave repair in Tampa Bay is worth a call before replacing the unit. An over-the-range microwave that stops heating costs $89 to diagnose and often $150–$250 to repair. A new over-the-range microwave costs $300–$800 plus installation. The math is straightforward.
The most common failure: a burned-out magnetron — the component that generates the microwave energy. A failed door switch is second. Microwaves have multiple door switches, and one failed switch prevents the unit from starting at all. A failed diode or high-voltage capacitor is third.
One safety note: a microwave capacitor can hold a lethal charge even after the unit is unplugged. This is not a DIY repair. Discharging the capacitor properly before accessing internal components is a required step — not optional.
We work on over-the-range microwaves (GE, Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Frigidaire), countertop units, and built-in microwaves. The $89 diagnostic applies toward the repair. Twelve-month warranty on parts and labor.
For countertop microwaves under $150 retail, replacement is usually the better value. We'll tell you on the phone before you schedule the diagnostic.

When You Need It /
Signs You Need Microwave Repair
Microwave Runs but Doesn't Heat Food
The magnetron has failed. The unit powers on, the turntable spins, but no heat is produced. For an over-the-range unit, magnetron replacement is often less expensive than a new unit installed. For a countertop under $150, replacement makes more sense.
Microwave Won't Start at All
Door switch failure is the most common cause — one of the door's interlock switches has failed and the unit won't run for safety reasons. The control panel may light up normally, but pressing Start does nothing.
Sparking Inside the Microwave
Sparking inside the cavity is usually a damaged waveguide cover (the plastic or mica panel inside the roof of the microwave). Food buildup burns into the cover, and the damaged area arcs. Replace the cover — often a $10–$20 part.
Turntable Not Spinning
The turntable motor has failed, or the coupler connecting the motor to the glass tray is broken. A turntable that doesn't spin is still functional but heats unevenly. Both are inexpensive repairs.
Display Works but Control Panel Is Unresponsive
Touchpad failure on the control panel. On some models the touchpad is a separate membrane that can be replaced without replacing the control board — we check which part applies to your model.

What Does It Cost?
$89 – $900
Typical Range
Door switch and waveguide cover replacements land at the low end. Magnetron replacement lands at the top. Over-the-range units are worth repairing in most cases. Countertop units under $150 retail typically aren't — we'll advise on the phone before you schedule.
$89 diagnostic fee applies toward repair cost.
The Process /
What to Expect
Diagnostic — $89
We test the door switches, magnetron, diode, and capacitor. We discharge the capacitor safely before accessing internal components. Written quote before any work starts.
Quote
We identify the failed component and quote the repair. The $89 applies toward the repair. If replacement makes more sense, we'll say so.
Repair
Door switches, waveguide covers, and turntable motors are completed same visit. Magnetron and control board replacements may require parts to be ordered.
Test
We verify the microwave heats a cup of water to the expected temperature before leaving. No assumptions.

FAQ /
Frequently Asked Questions
Is microwave repair worth it?
For over-the-range and built-in units, usually yes — the repair cost is often less than half the replacement cost including installation. For countertop units under $150 retail, replacement is usually the better value. We'll advise before you schedule.
Why is my microwave running but not heating?
The magnetron has failed. It's the component that generates microwave energy. The unit powers on normally but produces no heat. Magnetron replacement is the repair.
Is it safe to use a microwave that's sparking inside?
Stop using it. Sparking inside the cavity means something is arcing — either a damaged waveguide cover or metal in the path. A damaged waveguide cover is an inexpensive fix, but using the unit while it's arcing can damage the magnetron.
Do you work on over-the-range microwaves?
Yes. Over-the-range, built-in, and countertop units. We work on all major brands — GE, Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Frigidaire.
